Yanatile - Peru

Whole bean

Yanatile is in the department of Cusco, southern Peru. For four years, our importing partners, Red Fox, have been working with Valle Inca, a group led by Prudencio Vargas Saenz. With premiums reinvested in community infrastructure, quality and trust in this supply chain have grown as well. This lot comes from four producers, tasting like almond, nougat, and persimmon.

All of our coffees are medium-light roast and packaged in 333g bags. Coffee is whole bean, and can be ground for subscription orders only.

Story

Yanatile is a district in the department of Cusco, in southern Peru. This is a country and region that Dispatch has featured several times over the years, engaging with various actors and supply chains in pursuit of selections that align with our menu’s needs as well as our partnership values. This particular lot, sourced by our importing partners at Red Fox Coffee Merchants, is an excellent example of an evolving, improving, and vertically beneficial relationship that we are proud to be a part of.

This lot was produced by four farmers in the Yanatile Valley - Pio Encalada Sumalava, Lucia Abarca Sutta, Marion Huaman Herrera, and Matilde Garcia Monteagudo. These producers, along with about one hundred others, belong to the Valle Inca Producers’ Group, organized and led by Prudencio Vargas Saenz. Before operating Valle Inca, Prudencio worked as a bank loan officer, and this superbly-pragmatic background has greatly reinforced his ability to effect change and progress for the community. After years of informal leadership, Prudencio formalized the organization in order to achieve organic certification and the ability to self-export, and are furthermore working toward Fair Trade Certification in the seasons ahead.
