La Coipa

La Coipa is a town in Cajamarca, Peru. This lot was put together just for us, by our importing partners at Red Fox Coffee Merchants. Three women farmers produced this coffee, all part of a new cooperative called Asprocafe Alpes Andinos. Their farms are planted with Typica, Caturra, Pache, and Geisha, sitting as high as 1,900 meters above sea level. In the cup, we taste golden raisin, cantaloupe, and caramel.

Tart and tropical, best served with a little umbrella (not included).

La Coipa is a town in Cajamarca, northern Peru. Our importing partners, Red Fox Coffee Merchants, put this lot together specifically for Dispatch, featuring three women farmers from the Asprocafe Alpes Andinos cooperative. Their names are Esmérita Vasquez Ramirez, Maria Nieves Tantalean, and Esperanza Coronado Delgado. Asprocafe Alpes Andinos is a fairly new cooperative, currently representing about 150 members. Of these 150, only four women are registered as heads of household, one of whom produces enough coffee to sell in isolation, and we are thrilled to showcase the other three of them with this offering. 

Although we have had Peruvian coffees on the menu for years, this sort of supply chain engagement represents a huge step in the direction that we’d like to take more of our coffee program in the years ahead. Red Fox has been a critical partner of ours since we began roasting coffee, and we have worked with them for coffees from all over the world. Beyond this, before joining Dispatch, our Green Coffee Buyer had a chance to visit Red Fox’s operations in Lima and Cajamarca, deepening our overall connection to the potential this region possesses. As we have refined our goals for social impact, we have continued to grow in parallel with partners like Red Fox, and their enthusiasm to facilitate this coffee for us is proof that meaningful relationships take time and can pay off beautifully. 

Esmérita, Maria, and Esperanza’s farms are located 1,800 - 1,900 meters above sea level, with plantings of Typica, Caturra, Pache, and Geisha. A little more than half of the final lot comes from Esperanza’s farm, Las Fresas, while Esmérita and Maria contributed about one quarter each from their farms - La Esperanza and El Limón. Altogether, we have a vibrant, juicy, tropically fruited coffee with remarkable structure and clarity. In the cup, we taste golden raisin, cantaloupe, and caramel.
