Humure Stratton Nzaramba

Rwanda 333g

Tasting notes: Iced tea, brown sugar and apricot

A fantastic introduction to Rwanda for classic-leaning sippers.

Description

Processing: Washed Varietal (s): Red Bourbon Roast level: Medium-light (great for espresso or filter methods) Humure is a washing station in eastern Rwanda. Under the leadership of station manager Stratton Nzaramba, it has grown to represent ~1,500 farmers, producing micro and community lots undergoing a variety of processes. This selection is a washed community lot, with ample sweetness and subtle fruit. In the cup, we taste iced tea, brown sugar and apricot.

Story

Stratton Nzaramba manages Humure—the biggest of Baho Coffee’s community washing stations in Rwanda. In their ongoing conversations with Baho’s leader, Emmanuel Rusatira, our importing partners, Semilla, decided to distinguish some of the community blends by naming after the station manager, and we’re thrilled to now represent Stratton here on our menu.  Despite not having as forgiving a micro-climate as found in other parts of the country, Humure has been able to sustain beautifully high-quality coffees thanks largely to Stratton’s exceptional organization and leadership. With a capacity as high as 100 tons of green coffee per year, Humure is as busy as it gets, but variety and quality are yet to falter.  Somewhat milder in flavor profile than most of our other offerings from Rwanda, we feel that Stratton’s coffee could be a great gateway to this region for folks who don’t normally gravitate toward higher-acidity or fruit-forward coffees. In the cup, we taste iced tea, brown sugar and apricot.
