This coffee comes from the Santander region in Colombia and it takes its name from the family estate upon which this coffee was grown. La Pradera Estate, purchased over 30 years ago by José Rosario Daza, is now managed by his son Hector and grandson Oscar. The farm also produces bananas, cassava, and timber, and is home to 350,000 Organic and Rainforest Alliance certified coffee trees, 90% of which are fully shade grown and 100% of which receive only organic compost.
Since 2013, La Pradera has enjoyed a commercial relationship with Lohas Beans, a Colombian export company with an extensive sustainability mandate. In their own words, “LOHAS is an acronym for Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability, a market segment focused on health and fitness, the environment, personal development, sustainable living, and social justice”. The Lohas Beans quality team works closely with the La Pradera team to improve post harvest processing techniques with the goal of improving their cup scores and therefore the premiums they earn.
This coffee is classic and fun, like eating baklava with your bare hands having just peeled an orange.
